American Union Star One Block

$9.95

1 PATTERN, 2 QUILTS, 4 SIZES!

This version includes templates. The eagles are from border fabric, not applique, and many border prints can be used this way. A 15" square ruler or larger is recommended, but a cutting mat with lines and numbers works great, too.

The star uses y-seaming, so it deserves the intermediate skill level rating. If you have ever wanted to master 1/4" y-seaming, you will love my diagrams and hints to sew this or any odd-numbered intersection.

The circular outline requires bias strips. If a little bulge results, it can be quilted out. This sample used radiating straight stitches. Challenging but forgiving!

If you prefer, you can applique the star to the 14 1/2" background and skip the bias background and circle.

For a kaleidoscope star effect, cut 5 identical diamond motifs.

Instructions are also included for the much simpler One Block Quilt, sizes, 28" to 50".  The center is the same dimensions, you just keep building around it. It's a great quilt for pillow panels up to 14" finished size, beautiful big prints too pretty to chop up, fat quarter bundles, showcasing applique blocks, using existing stash fabric, UFO blocks, and making a quick gift for any occasion. This size is 36" x 36", a popular Linus baby quilt size.

Instructions are included for "quilt as you go" with wrap around self binding.  Additional quilting is recommended, but outline stitching will be completed, and only seen on the back.  The center panel is a great place to outline stitch by hand or machine.  I find a little hand quilting, no matter how imperfect, is always appreciated, and the center is the focal point.
